Project One Love’s mission is to rebuild our communities’ one child and dog at a time. We do this by pairing up at-risk youth with shelter dogs for training and K9 education. We currently have 2 programs running. Our Jr. K9 Coaching Program is with youth in grades 3 to 8 at the St Francis of Assisi Youth Club in EPA. We have 3 modules the kids can complete before earning their K9 Coaching status, which gives them the opportunity to come back and teach with us.

We also have another program we are still developing where we are bringing PIN shelter dogs to Our Common Ground and doing training and beyond with the youth there. OCG is a live-in facility for drug abuse and behavior problems. We are in the process of setting up adoption fairs at local pet stores like PFE for the youth to give back and it also gets great exposure for the program. We are building our mentor program for the older youth in transition to be able to work more closely with us to build job skills and go onto teach obedience classes in the stores.

So basically, we are helping the dogs to learn some manners so they can stay in a forever home as well as give these youth the amazing opportunity to connect and learn alongside these dogs and leave their program feeling good about themselves and with some skills to be employable.
